The sound beneath the silence

Hey Reader,

Lately I’ve been thinking about silence. How it can mean rest, or agreement, or something we choose when speaking feels too risky.

We’re told that quiet means calm, that following the rules keeps everything safe. But sometimes silence isn’t safety. It’s surrender.

Change rarely begins in a shout. It starts in smaller ways: the question someone shouldn’t have asked, the refusal to agree just to keep the peace. Those are the moments that shift everything.

Obedience feels easier than defiance because it asks nothing from us but compliance. But when we stop questioning, we stop seeing what’s being taken.

That’s what’s been on my mind while writing this month’s story. How easily "for your own good" becomes "because we said so." And how quiet can start to sound like control.

If this year has taught me anything, it’s that awareness begins with noticing.

So keep noticing. Keep asking. That’s where freedom starts.

Thank you for being part of this community of readers who believe awareness can still change things.
